Why does Baobab exist?

Every evening, in many families, homework time becomes a challenging experience. Lack of motivation, lengthy lessons to review, test anxiety, tension between parents and children…

And in middle school, the shift in pace is often abrupt: students are expected to be more independent, there are more subjects, and more lessons to learn on their own—without having really learned how to do so.

It was this observation that led to the creation of Baobab: what if technology could make studying in middle school simpler, more motivating, and less of a source of conflict at home?

Independence is something you learn; it isn't something you can simply decree

In middle school, children are often expected to become independent overnight. But no one has really shown them how.

At Baobab, we firmly believe that self-confidence is the true driving force behind learning. When a middle school student better understands a lesson, aces a quiz, and sees their progress, they regain confidence in their abilities. And this confidence gradually helps them work on their own, without constantly relying on a parent.

Our goal isn’t just to help children get better grades. It’s to inspire them to want to learn on their own.

Customized tutoring based on the student's actual coursework

Every child learns differently. School is often standardized, but students’ needs are not. Baobab uses artificial intelligence to transform middle schoolers’ actual lessons into personalized study tools: flashcards, interactive quizzes, and tailored exercises. The student scans their lesson, the AI extracts the key points, and studying becomes an active rather than a passive process.

We’ve also thought of those who experience study time from the couch across the room. Baobab is designed to reduce the mental load on parents, allowing them to encourage and praise, rather than supervise and correct.

A fun and engaging experience

Play is one of the most powerful learning tools there is.

Baobab incorporates gamification mechanics into its review sessions: challenges, levels, and rewards. The child comes back the next day not because they’re told to, but because they want to beat their score or unlock the next level.

The goal: to make studying in middle school feel a little less like a chore, and a little more like something you choose to do.
